Tuesday, January 15th

Our lesson today focused on three mathematical properties:

  • The Commutative Property
  • The Associative Property
  • The Identity Property

Students took the following notes from the whiteboard into their math notebooks:

We are currently in Chapter 5, page 289 in our textbook if you need additional practice with these properties.

NO HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY NIGHT, JANUARY 15TH

Thursday, January 10th & BIG GOLD TEST!!!!!!

Tomorrow we will have a gold test on the skills we have learned over the previous week. Students have been made aware for the last 2 days that they would have a test on the following skills:

  • exponents
  • Order of Operations
  • substituting in the value of the variable and then following PEMDAS
  • translating words & phrases into algebraic expressions
  • review your Words & Phrases chart
  • review your definitions of variable, constant, and coefficient

All classes worked a 2-page study guide TOGETHER during class today so everybody should have THE WHOLE STUDY GUIDE COMPLETED!!!!! If your student has a blank study guide or a portion incomplete, it is because they chose to sit and not participate in class. The study guide will be taken up tomorrow before our test for a silver grade.

Study Guide #9 HW for 1-10-2019

AND here is the chart Key Words & Phrases used in Algebraic Expressions

Tuesday, January 8th

Students continued translating words into algebraic expressions today in class. We worked a multitude of problems together to ensure everybody understood how to pick the phrase apart and determine what to do to write the expression. I believe everyone has gotten quite comfortable with constructing these algebraic expressions!

Again, here’s a picture of what our chart looks like now that we have identified all switch phrases:

*Please pay special attention to the words or phrases that have an asterisk beside them because they are SWITCH PHRASES! When we see these special phrases in our problem, they indicate we are to switch the order of the problem!

Worksheet Q2-13A (p12) HW for Tuesday 1-8-2019

Monday, January 7th

Students began our short unit on Translating Words into Algebraic Expressions today in class! We created a chart in our notebook categorizing all the words or phrases that would let us know what operation to include in our expression. Here is a picture of the chart they created today in their math notebooks:

We used this chart and worked about out about 18 word phrases and created an algebraic expression that reflected the words. It was tricky, especially those *Switch Phrases, but everyone seemed to understand by the end of the exercise!

No homework tonight! Go watch the National Championship Game!

And Roll Tide!!!!!

Tuesday, December 11th & BENCHMARK EXAMS!!!!!

What a day! Even with a delayed start, students in 5th and 6th periods were able to take their exams today! Scores were really good which is a reflection of how hard everyone has been working the last few weeks! Remember, study guides will be taken up before your student’s exam so please ensure they have them in class the day of the exam!

HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH

Study Guide #8 for Benchmark Exams all 4 pages

Of course if your student has completed their exam, no homework! At this juncture, everyone’s study guide should be completed as we have worked the entire study guide together in class! I also encouraged students to read over their math notebook as it is an excellent resource for skills we have worked on since August!

Enjoy your evening!

Monday, December 10th & BENCHMARK EXAMS!!!!!

Our First Semester Benchmark Exams begin tomorrow! Students have been working so diligently to prepare! Today we worked on pages 3 & 4 of our study guide. At this point, all students have been directly engaged with reviewing all the skills that will be assessed on our benchmark. These skills include:

adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals

adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions

greatest common factor, least common multiple

integers (graphing them & ordering them)

absolute value (adding and subtracting absolute value)

the coordinate plane, the quadrants on the coordinate plane

graphing ordered pairs

order of operations (PEMDAS)

algebraic expressions

Whew!! We’ve really covered some ground this semester!

Our study guide will be due the day of your student’s exam. There should not be one person who shows up without this study guide done because we have worked like crazy in class to review! I am excited to see how everyone performs on this benchmark exam!

HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 10TH

Study Guide #8 for Benchmark Exams all 4 pages

Thursday, December 6th & FINAL EXAMS!!!!!!!!

We are finally in exam mode! Students began preparing for their final exams today as we worked on pages 1 & 2 of their Benchmark Study Guide (Study Guide #8)! The best resource for students to utilize is their math notebook! The math benchmark will be comprehensive in nature, meaning it will cover all the skills from 1st and 2nd nine weeks! As students are beginning to realize, we’ve covered a lot of ground since August!

HOMEWORK FOR THURSDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 6TH

Study Guide #8 for Benchmark Exams p1 & p2

Try and get as much of this done as you can…..we will continue to work on this in class on Friday and we will also move on to pages 3 & 4.

Tuesday, December 4th

Students began their study of Algebraic Expressions today. We took down many notes on variables, coefficients, and constants. We also learned how to substitute in the value of variables in order to solve algebraic expressions! Whew! We really learned a lot today in class!
