Tuesday, October 23rd

We began our unit on Integers today! Students were very eager to learn about positive and negative integers as well as locate their places on a numberline! We also discussed some words we might see that would help indicate if an integer is positive or negative. Here are the notes we took down today in class:

The entire class worked on a sheet where we wrote integers to fit a specific situation. This is the sheet we completed together as a class:

Our homework for tonight is exactly the same, writing an integer to fit a specific situation. Use the t-chart concerning positive and negative words to help you if you get stuck!

Tuesday, October 16th & BIG GOLD TEST!!!!!!

My students are working so hard each class period as we are learning how to divide fractions! Monday we learned how to divide fractions by fractions using the KCF method. Today, we extended that learning to include dividing fractions by whole numbers and mixed numbers! Everyone picked up on this skill easily! Here are some sample problems we worked together in class:

We are heading toward a Big Gold Test on Friday, October 19th! The skills that will be assessed include:

*multiplying fractions (fractions by fractions, fractions by whole #s, fractions by mixed #)

*dividing fractions (fractions by fractions, fractions by whole #s, fractions by mixed #s)

Lesson 7-4 HW for 10-16-2018

Monday, October 15th

Students began learning the process for dividing fractions today in class! We call it “Keep Change Flip” or KCF for short! As you can see from the notes we took today in class, the steps are:

  1. Keep the first fraction
  2. Change the operation from division to multiplication
  3. “Flip” or find the reciprocal of the last fraction

I reminded students that I wanted to see the “KCF” on each and every problem! We are doing this to keep ourselves on track as we work through the problems!

*******Looking forward to a Notebook Check Quiz later this week!!!!!!!!!!

*******Looking forward to a Gold Test at the end of the week on multiplying and dividing fractions!!!!!!!!

Dividing Fractions p7 HW for 10-15-2018

Thursday, October 11th & REPORT CARDS!!!!

Students learned how to cross-cancel as they multiplied fractions today in class! Our homework has an example on it of cross-cancelling. We worked many examples of cross-cancelling in class together to ensure accuracy of procedure. Our homework has an example on it for your use as you complete homework tonight! Remember to reduce your answer to lowest terms!!!

Tuesday, October 2nd & BIG GOLD TEST!!!!!!!!

StudentsĀ checked overĀ their study guides today in class! We were able to clear up any issues students had as they worked those problems last night! As an additional bonus, students played a few cards games today by constructing fractions they could add, subtract and reduce! I heard a lot of great conversations surrounding our fraction skills!

Big Gold Test tomorrow!!! If you need a copy of the study guide, look at Monday’s post!

***CORRECT ANY MISTAKES YOU FOUND WHEN WE CHECKED OVER YOUR STUDY GUIDE! I WILL BE TAKING YOUR STUDY GUIDES UP TOMORROW BEFORE THE TEST SO MAKE SURE YOU BRING IT WITH YOU TO SCHOOL****

Monday, October 1st & BIG GOLD TEST ON WEDNESDAY!!!!

Students were given a study guide for Wednesday’s big gold test! There are only 12 problems on the study guide, but we still worked several of them together to ensure accuracy of procedures! We will check the study guide together tomorrow in class so please make sure your student has this study guide completed and ready for class tomorrow!

Study Guide #3 Adding & Subtracting Fractions

Remember to show your work and reduce your answers to lowest terms!

Thursday, September 27th and BIG GOLD TEST

Our class learned how to add and subtract fractions that have mixed numbers today! Here are the notes students took down from the board:

We worked 6 problems from the front of the homework and 6 problems from the back of the homework together to ensure that everyone understood the procedures and how to simplify their final answer! So, out of the 24 problems on this homework sheet, 12 of them were done together in class! Hopefully, all students were zoned in to what we were doing and copying everything down that we did together on the board!
