UPDATE #2 – Friday, April 29th

CHAPTER 29 TEST ON MONDAY, MAY 2ND!!!!!
Due to our week of additional testing and crazy Alabama weather, we have not been able to properly prepare for our Chapter 29 test. As you know from our class today, I have moved our Chapter 29 test to Monday!!! We completed our study guide today in class so each of you should have all the information on your study guide to prepare for our test. Please bring your study guide to class with you Monday as I will take those up before the test.

UPDATE…..Tuesday, April 26th

ARMT+ testing went extremely well this morning! Please make sure your student brings their calculators back to school with them on Wednesday as they will use them again during Wednesday’s testing.

Chapter 29 Study Guides were given out today during 6th and 8th periods. If you are a student in 1st or 2nd period, please make sure you see me at some point during the day on Wednesday to get your study guide! I have a huge stack of them on my desk and it will take you 3 seconds to come into my classroom and grab one.

FYI……..We are testing ARMT+ on Tuesday, April 26th and Wednesday, April 27th. Students need to bring a basic 4-function calculator just like they did for ARMT earlier this month. This calculator needs to be in hand Tuesday morning!!

SOCIAL STUDIES
As we wrap up our study of The Civil Rights Movement this week, we will work in Section 4 of Chapter 29. In this section, we will consider other minority groups who also joined the effort to gain civil rights, such as women, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. We will end the week with a test on Chapter 29, all sections.

Ways to study for a test:
1) Work the Section Assessment at the end of each section
2) Read each section and take notes in your Social Studies notebook
3) Make notecards with key terms, key figures, or key pieces of legislation

We are continuing our study of the Civil Rights Movement this week, including key players in the fight for civil rights, the struggles many African Americans endured to obtain their civil liberties, as well as the influence of the Freedom Rides that took place in the summer of 1961.

The focus of our studies for the next several weeks will center on Chapter 29 and the Civil Rights Movement. This week we will consider the Plessy v. Ferguson court case as well as the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas court case and their impact on the Civil Rights Movement. We will complete the week considering how the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations dealt with the turbulent events during the 1960 era.
