Tuesday, August 20th & BIG GOLD TEST!!!!!!

Although we did not have any new notes for today, our work involved the use of 2-digit divisors as we are still practicing our skills! Students worked the first 3 problems together whole group to ensure understanding of procedure as well as to clarify any misconceptions. Here are the problems we worked together:

I advised students they were most likely going to have to do some scratch work on the sides or backs of their paper and that is okay!!! I encourage students to show their scratch work because that is a sign of their thinking! Here is a copy of tonight’s homework:

Remember to show your work!

We are having our first GOLD TEST, this Friday, August 23rd. Students will be assessed on the following skills:

Monday, August 19th

Students began learning to divide using the standard algorithm today in class. We made a foldable outlining all the steps in the process and then glued that into our math notebooks. This is our foldable:

Students were able to work the first two problems on their homework together in class to ensure understanding of procedures. Students were also encouraged to show their work!

Homework for Monday night, August 19th:

Remember to show your work! Have a good evening!

Wednesday, March 20th

We are continuing with our unit on The Percent Proportion. Students are beginning to understand the procedures a little better and we also practiced identifying what we actually calculated: the part, the whole, or the percent?  We had a sheet with 14 problems on it…….we worked the odd #s together as a whole group to make sure everyone understood the procedures and arrived at the correct answer. The even #s were assigned for homework. Please remember to show your work using the percent proportion!

Here are some of the odd # problems we worked together:

Here is tonight’s homework…..remember, even #s only for HW!

Percent Problems p12 HW for Wednesday night 3-20-2019

Tuesday, March 19th

We have moved into calculating Percent Proportions and students seem to have picked up on this skill fairly easily even though there are many steps. The Percent Proportion procedures are as follows:

Here are some examples we worked together in class to ensure everyone understood the procedures:

The Percent Proportion will allow students to easily calculate the term of the problem they are missing, be it the whole, the part, or the percent. As always, please have your student show their work!

Friday, March 15th & BIG GOLD TEST!!!!!

We wrapped up our unit on fractions, decimals, and percents today and we are looking at a gold test on Monday, March 18th!!!!  Study guides were given out today in class and we worked a few from each section together to ensure students understood procedures. Here are the skills that will be assessed on Monday:

  • converting fractions to decimals (DIVIDE!!!!!)
  • converting decimals to fractions (put the decimal over the correct place value)
  • converting decimals to percents (Dr Pepper)
  • converting percents to decimals (Pepper Dr)
  • accurately converting between fractions, decimals, and percents

Study guides will be taken up for a silver grade so make sure you have them for class on Monday!

Wednesday, March 13th

Students were introduced to the concept of percents today! Students learned that the actual word “percent” means “for each 100” based on the Latin root words “per” and “cent”.

The notes we took today indicate that when you see a % sign, it is literally saying “Put me over 100” and then reduce. Here are the notes we took today in class:

As always, we worked several examples together in class. We also worked several items on the homework together as well. Remember to show where you set the percent over 100 and then reduced!
