How wonderful to see everyone again after our Christmas Break! Students were excited to be back at school this morning and it was good to see everyone smiling and anxious to get back into a routine!

Ratios, proportions, and unit rates will be our focus in math for the next two weeks. The week of January 14th we will calculate unit rates, including rates of regular grocery items such as juice, laundry detergent, canned soup, cereal, etc. I may ask students to bring in some of these items in order to provide a hands-on approach to our learning.

No homework for Thursday night or Friday night.

We will not have homework this week. Students will spend their time catching up missing assignments and making corrections to their benchmark exams from Friday. Once these tasks are complete, students will work with ordered pairs and the coordinate grid during class.

We will have our Nine Weeks Benchmark in math on Friday, December 14, 2012. The students will receive their study guides on Wednesday, December 12 and the following will be topics reviewed on the study guide: divisibility rules, simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions/whole numbers/mixed numbers, multiplying and dividing fractions/whole numbers/mixed numbers, and problem solving.

Welcome to the last week of November! Where has the month gone?

Green Team students will begin multiplying fractions with whole numbers and with other fractions this week! We worked out a very detailed process for multiplying fractions with whole numbers in class on Monday. Students should have these notes in their math notebooks. We will continue working out procedures to solve multiplication of fractions as the week progresses along.

The way our classes flowed today, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd period did not get through class notes until right as the bell rang for the next period therefore those classes were not assigned homework. Those classes will make this homework assignment up on Thursday, November 15th.

Because of our Veteran’s Day Program this morning, 2nd period had very limited time in math class. As a result, I was NOT able to assign them any homework. REPEAT…..2nd period DOES NOT have any homework tonight, Thursday, November 8th.

We are finally beginning our study of fractions! Students worked today creating equivalent fractions and by the end of the week, we will work to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.
